Positive: Fully furnished 3-bedroom (1 bathroom) apartment with a full kitchen (no dishwasher), a clothes washer (no dryer), and free wifi. Lovely garden behind the building, good for small children. Restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance, excellent local bus service (using the “Lothian Bus & Tram” app), with easy access to historic sites and everything in central Edinburgh.

Negative: The walls, floors, carpet, sofa, and building are in grotty condition. The clothes washer is old, with a bit of mould inside. There is a storage closet (not for guest use) which is full of stuff and reeks of mould (that’s fine, just stay out of there). The beds, bathroom, and appliances are otherwise is good condition. We tried watching a bit of telly, but it was frequently glitching/buffering (the internet service has insufficient bandwidth to support watching TV properly). Parking is INSANELY expensive — £68 per day, Mon-Sat — although there are some parking spots east of South Clerk Street which are £41 per day, Mon-Fri — download the “RingGo” app for details. The boiler pipes had been shut off — we spent our first night in the cold — after numerous phone calls, the manager failed to get an engineer to attend — finally I figured the valves out myself, and the heat worked fine after that.

Summary: Functional apartment in a good location, but a bit shabby and run-down, with VERY expensive parking.
