Helmsley and the surrounding area has a wealth of English Heritage sites including Helmsley castle ruins with pretty walled gardens and Rievaulx Abbey, both within walking distance. Byland Abbey, Pickering Castle and the stately homes of Nunnington Hall and Castle Howard are well worth a visit.
