Dog and Duck Cottage was originally a ferry cottage and was the original Dog and Duck pub and can trace its origins back to the 16th century. It has low ceilings, many exposed beams and is styled as a private home. It is the setting for the book by Manning Cole ’The House at Plucks’s Gutter’. You are welcome to fish during your stay without charge from the Quay outside the cottage and the property welcomes fishermen during the open season.
With its high roof line, chimney stack and Kent peg tiles on the original cottage, it is everything you imagine an old country cottage to be, and this feeling continues as you cross the threshold. Inside there is a characterful kitchen/dining room with exposed beams, a traditional terracotta tiled floor, wood units and a range cooker. The charming, dual aspect living room has a beamed ceiling, wood flooring and an inglenook fireplace. There is also a garden room. There is another extension on the other side of the cottage that includes a big surprise – the stunning bathroom with its large, oval two-person Whirlpool steam corner bath and shower cabinet. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms including one with an en-suite.
There are many great restaurants and takeaways in the nearby village of Minster Thanet many of whom offer delivery to the property as well as a pub nearby which serves a good English pub grub. Minster and Thanet Parkway Stations are within a ten-minute drive offering access to London St. Pancras station whilst Canterbury 12 miles, Dover, 15 miles, and France are all easily achieved on a day trip.
